How to Download Images from Google Docs - 3 Easy Ways‍

Downloading images from Google Docs can be a real pain. So here, we describe the easiest way to accomplish it, and also two other simple and quick ways to download images from Google Docs.

Google Docs is used extensively by teams across the world for word processing, but downloading images from Google Docs documents can be a real pain.

There is no 'Save Image As' option when you right-click on the image within the doc, which prevents you from downloading the image.

For example, I'm not ale to see the 'Save Image As' option when I right-click on this image:

One method that most people resort to, is taking a screenshot of the image within the doc, and then saving it. However, the resolution and quality of the image will not be good enough.

Moreover, you also have to go through the long process of opening the screenshot in an image editor and cropping out the image. Hence, we've described the easiest way to download images from Google Docs below.


Download images via Google Keep

Here's a quick video showing how you can download images from Google Docs in just four simple steps:

1. Right-click on the image you want to download and select 'Save to Keep'

2. Select 'Open in Keep' in the 3-dot menu

As shown below, you need to click on the 3-dot menu and select 'Open in Keep'.

3. You can now download the image via 'Save Image As' within Keep

(Just right-click on the image to get the familiar 'Save Image As' option)

Note: Once you download and save the image from Google Keep, you can then choose to delete it from Keep or have it saved as a note for future reference.

By following this method, you'll be able to download images from Google Docs within a few seconds, while retaining the original quality and resolution of the image.


Other ways to download images from Google Docs

We've just seen the easiest way to download images from a Google Doc, but if for some reason the method doesn't work for you, you could also explore other ways:

While these methods are not as easy as the above method, they are much better than relying on screenshots to download the image.


Method 2: Download the Google Doc as a web page and extract images

Click on 'File''Download''Web Page (.html, zipped)'

You can then open your Downloads to find the downloaded zip file of the web page:

Once you extract the zip file, you'll be able to find an 'Images' folder in the extracted file which contains all the images present in the Google Doc:

Method 3: Publish the Google Doc to the web and download the image

This 3rd method is a bit harder than the first two but is nevertheless easier than other ways such as downloading and installing specific browser extensions, plugins, or importing your Google Doc to MS-Word.

First, click on on 'File''Publish to the Web' as shown below:

Next, click on 'Publish' when prompted with the following dialog box:

Once the document is published you can then copy the generated link and paste it in a new tab to open the published web version of your Google Doc:

After this, it's as simple as right-clicking on the image and selecting 'Save Image As' to download the image onto your computer.

Note: This method requires you to publish your Google Doc onto the web, which makes it available to the public. Hence, it is not ideal if your Google Doc contains private or sensitive content.

If you are worried about your content being open to the public, you can quickly un-publish the Google Doc after you download the required images, as shown below:
